Be Aware of QR !!!

This Blog Post is written amid concerns of QR scam. Also, we will be discussing about some simple safety precautions to be adopted for pre, during and post process of payments made via QR Codes.

What’s QR?

QR is a popular acronym for Quick Response, is usually a barcode for exchanging of currency digitally.

When do we come across QR code?

  • Generally, while you use Whatsapp web on to your laptop to connect mobile Whatsapp to laptop.
  • Making an online payment via PhonePe, Gpay, AmazonPay etc.

The above mentioned examples are some day to day example usage of QR codes.

Brief history of how QR code got incorporated in my life when we embraced for digital currency.

Until my Graduation, I have never used any online/digital payments since all we had was button phones and mobile data/internet was a bit costly. Next, came the multimedia phones, they were the beginners for a smartphone era. Then, it was Finally the Android who occupied the smartphone market, although not smart enough because news crops in every 3 to 6 months about the safety of apps, devices and user data.

Since, I was in now so called smartphone era, I was still hesitant to use the digital payments.

  • Reason 1: I was not yet earning actively. Hence, no inflow / outflow of cash.
  • Reason 2: All the cash we handled was banknotes in the form of Hard Cash.
  • Reason 3: Businesses around me were little or lesser aware of setting up Digital Payments. Hardly 1 or 2 out of 10 used it just for show off purposes. But real transactions never took off at that time.
  • Reason 4: People were so found of ATMs (debit card) at my time that a single person would maintain at least 1 or more than 1 from different bank accounts.

What drove the initial users towards Digital Payments?

INSTALL PROCESS: Incentives provided by Android apps welcomed users towards the Digital Payment. I am using the soft-word as “Incentives” , but more or less it was a just bribing a user to make use of digital payments. So, Initially, when you downloaded with your friend’s referral, you would gain some amount and so does your friend. It was a win-win situation for both the service provider and customer.

USAGE PROCESS: The service provider knew that once the app is installed, the user will get a finite amount as joining bonus. But, now it was the time to keep the flock using it and not to deviate from it. Hence, they came with another plan. This time, whenever the user made a payment / received an amount, there was a gift / voucher / cashback and other form of goodies to the user to encourage using these platforms.

UPDATE PROCESS: After a considerable amount of users onboarded onto the digital payments, the digital service provider came up with new User Interface, Customer Experience, Safety features etc.

And so does the pack of jacklegs !!! They were eagerly waiting to explore the chances of siphoning the hard earned money through various illegal methods.

Hence, it is recommended to be cautious while dealing with digital payments. Here, I have listed out some of the pre , during and post process of payment checks to make sure you are on the correct path of it and not being tricked into spammers.

PRE Process (Before Payment):

  1. Make sure that you ask to the shop owner for QR Code sticker or QR Code stand.
  2. Confirm the name of the owner or the business entity present on QR Code Sticker belongs to them.
  3. Ask if they have a read out loud machine which confirms amount received once payment is done.

DURING Payment:

  1. Ensure your internet / network is stable.
  2. Scan for the QR code and reconfirm with the receiver the number & name that’s being displayed on your mobile screen.
  3. Enter the amount correctly. Sometimes, an extra zero entered may go unnoticed.
  4. Enter UPI Pin correctly and make payment.

POST Payment:

  1. Verify with the shop owner or business entity if he/she has received the expected amount.
  2. Also, show your current transaction details.
  3. As a matter of fact, validate the day, date, time and status (successful / pending).

Since, digital payments allow the flexibility for the sender and receiver to be physically present in front of each other, both the parties can be in any part of the world. Now, here comes a great deal of suspicion.

But, we have to make sure and certain that:

  • Before making payment call via normal or video call and confirms if he/she has requested for money.
  • No matter how close is your friend or a family member or a business entity owner, do not respond to text message asking for money. Just call them and confirm whether any such request was raised by them. Only upon confirming make a payment initiation and follow the above pre, during and post payment processes.
  • Do not scan for online QR Scans where they lure the users into sending amount to user account, instead we end up loosing our money.
  • Do not click on suspicious links or spam messages which might lead to unnecessary circumstances.
  • Make sure whether it is an inflow or outflow of money. Check once, Confirm Twice before making any payments.

Who are targets of fake QR code scams?

  • QR Code scammers target event related such as pandemic in the name of relief work etc.
  • They might choose certain age groups such as old people, since they will easily fall to prey because of the technology being new and in case of not knowing on how to handle the transactions safely.
  • They might also pose as job providers, people from banks etc ,. and what all you can guess on it.

PS: Article is written and posted to make aware in rising of fraud cases in QR Code payments. One of the final reason I want to add due to significant increase in scams is that we have become so overconfident or say it ignorant and pay less attention / time that we forget to cross check or confirm the payments.

Supplement: In case if you being duped despite all necessary precaution, one kind request please don’t approach me. Proceed to your nearest cyber crime cell / police station and file a complaint.

Note: The name of the brands , apps used in the post are purely for illustration and non-commercial educational awareness purpose towards digital literacy.

*****END NOTE*****

고맙습니다 for reading my article.

Since, we are a global blogger => 고맙습니다 once again.

WhatsApp “Mess”-enger

Well, I am here unquestionably to not say to you that “Lord has sent me to write this blog and if you need some good news in next few days, then you have to share my blog to at-least 10 of your friends or family members.”

But, you can relate to ludicrous messages in such context on WhatsApp you might have received at your initial days.

People have become digitally more aware as compared to yesteryear, specially in terms of privacy and security. Gone are the days when people used to flaunt materialistic aspects such as new company joining offer letter, new car, bike etc to gain attention from around the circles. This era is gone now.

Upcoming era of flaunters can be divided into 2 groups.

*****GROUP 1*****

  • Group 1: Consisting of new digital warriors who have not been a part of facebook / instagram / twitter/ snapchat (Let’s call them as non-FITS group) but proactively have been serving their designation as admin for a dozen of WhatsApp Group.
  • This group of young people want to settle in a more user-friendly social media networks with less hurdles while operating the App.
  • Believe me or not despite having chats over the social media, they do not hesitate to have hour long discussion on the chat of just 5 minutes duration.
  • Your social power is determined on for how many groups you serve your capacity as an admin.
  • The group admin would be definitely a bada*s guy would open a separate group for family members provided if he is not a group admin.
  • They are only next to journalist posting the latest news/incidents in and around their city and it was first posted by them and sometimes without checking for its authenticity or genuineness.

*****GROUP 2*****

  • Group 2: The people belonging to this group are careful and cautious about what they post about self or society.
  • These people do not want to fall into unwanted controversaries and more necessarily do not respond to each and every message which is at times not relevant to them.
  • Moreover, they are aligned much to the other social media to which I call as FITS (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat).
  • Despite having differences on opinions in social media they tend to behave normal in a more matured away and cross over their opponents in real life with smile.
  • They are less interested to be in many of the groups(be it of school, college, employees etc) and usually exit from the group or remain inactive.
  • These people are smart and are aware of the authenticity of news on social media and have the ability to judge whether it’s true or fake.

Despite all the differences these two groups act as two faces of same coin. No one is looser and we all know who gets benefitted out of it.

Takeaways: Government has been drafting IT security policies from time to time in the interest of people and nation to fight against fake news, rumors. Please be aware of what content you are sharing which might lead to fights making a road for riots if the sensitive content pertaining to religion, violence, etc., is being shared. Also, please be aware of the critical facts since now prime owner of WhatsApp is none other than the same person who owns Facebook, Instagram and had been in news due to various data leaks and manipulation of personal data etc.

Watch out: What goes digital stays there forever. Be Kind and Do Good.

PS: All the names used here are real world entities owned by their respective owners. No intention is being framed to bring bad name to respective social media apps mentioned in this blog post. And also expect the same from the owners that our personal data is safe and next time if I browse for any shoes in my browser, then it should not appear in my Instagram Ads (if you really care for your customers).

PPS: Happy Reading. Please like, share, subscribe to the blog. Let’s strive to make blogging a 2 way journey and let me know your thoughts in comment section. Thanks.

Don’t say “Hi” or “Hello” again !!!

Yes, you read it correct. It applies only if you are a part of corporate and in special circumstances working from Home or away from Offices.

Almost every employee has been using software based applications for communication. These applications are very useful and handy when we are working in office. Some popular apps are:

  • Teams
  • Zoom
  • Skype

Few of the corporate companies allow the usage of such apps in personal mobile devices (guarded / monitored under IT security policies). Such apps can also be used beyond office hours in case of urgent communication regarding leave or running late to office etc.

These apps have become a part and parcel of life ever since the pandemic has begun and employees have started to adept to the Work-From-Home or Work-From-Anywhere culture.

You might be at the receiving end from several of your colleagues sending messages/mails relating to your work, project and product etc. Mails are considered as acceptable since it contains complete information on what you want to convey, and what you wish to get in return reply from the recipient.

Now, speaking about the office messaging platforms, it is my strong belief that do not let it to become another WhatsApp of Office. What I mean to presume here is that of the freely dangling messages that do not point anywhere. Messages such as “Hi”, “Hello”, “Wassup”, “Hey” …… and the list goes on for such phrases.

I had come across a wonderful website that most of working employees can put forth in their statuses of teams, skype or zoom if there’s such field and circumstances allow you to do so. The website name is nohello(dot)net . [Remove the alphabet dot and put a . ]

The website clearly picturizes on the importance of the time being wasted due to the Incomplete messages sent. It might again take some time from the host to understand, interpret and reply to your “hi” message.

In this process, there is a total waste of time since there is no actual message is passed to the recipient.

So, next time when you are sending a message, Send a complete message instead of a half baked “Hi” Messages.

At times, if you think if the message to be conveyed is too much straightforward and aggressive, then try to include the Greetings like “Hi“, “Hey“, “Hope you’re doing good“, as prefixes to your actual work related message.

Also, the original message can be suffixed with few pleasing words like “GoodDay“, “Catch you later“, “Thank you“, etc…

Having written much about the context, it’s definitely on my part to impart: “Thanks” to all the readers. Happy Reading !!!

EV: Future of renewable mobility

Across 2020 to 2030, EV sector might be seeing its more up and little less downs. Mark my words!

Alright, I am here back again with an another interesting topic. But, this time it is automobile sector. Tesla is the car that comes flashing to our brain when we start speaking about EV vehicles. We have fantasized about having one Electronic vehicle either a bike or a car at some point in time due to a lot of buzz like:

  • Zero maintenance cost (Although not zero, but lesser as compared to diesel/petrol vehicles).
  • Zero Carbon Emission (Although manufacture of Batteries and Electric power generation does carbon emission)
  • Low expenditure on Fuel procurement (Profitable when banking on EV used as an alternate to gasoline)

Just listed out a few of them as I heard/read among society. And the list goes on…. (on both positive and negative notes

A Glance on what’s happening in the market.

Well, a lot of stock traders are already betting big on companies that are associated with production of Electronic Vehicles or parts. That’s surely a good prediction, but the results are to seen after a long run and we aren’t able to come to conclusion at early stage.

Let me just highlight quickly, “The Golden Rush in California”. You can relate the same situation here. To make a business out of this market, setting up of an EV charging station at a place might reward in terms of good opportunities. Till the vehicles charges, targeting the customers based on their age group with some sports a small bowling alley, even a cool drinks dispenser or similar such ideas can be put in place as a business strategy to generate revenues. Oh ok, that’s a leak of business idea here. So, my dear readers, just go quickly and grab the opportunity until someone builds an empire while you’re still thinking on it.

What’s beyond EV markets?

Quite unlike Electronic Vehicles in the market, there’s another source of energy taking into form slowly and steadily. If your guess is “Hydrogen” , then you are quite 100% correct. Although, I tried to do some research on how this “Hydrogen” entity is being used as fuel, there are little less known information to current date. But, I guess with time, as we move forward in coming day, months, years, it will no more be on papers, but it will be on roads.

Inspiration to own an EV.

Tired of Pollution: Let’s throw some focus on the current status of petrol and diesel vehicles. If you are living in New Delhi (Capital city of India), you might already be willing to take EV vehicles as an alternate provided the pollution and climate conditions prevailing over not just Delhi, but also to its neighbor states and areas. People of Delhi, No offense please! We all together are accountable for the current climate condition. And obviously, it’s our first and foremost responsibility to start working towards it, before its too late

Next Generation: Having said that, if you are a new buyer currently you have best options currently as compared to few years ago. So, you might have been tricked to buy it watching the things grow in favor of EV vehicles.

Government Laws: Also, the Government is coming up with laws that allows to scrap your old vehicles which release more pollution than expected.

Cost Reduction: Reduction in both fuel cost and maintenance cost is a motivating factor to buy an EV.

No Red Tape: Many state governments are providing subsidy and no incentives such as exemption from taxes etc. You can find benefits applicable to your state from your respective state government to where you reside/belong.

What’s the status of non-EV traditional petrol/diesel vehicles?

It is the rule of Nature that the “Old must Go and New must Come”. Let’s welcome the new and adept to it. If you are a new buyer , my recommendation is go for EV vehicles. If you are fixed to buying non EV vehicles , then atleast have a discussion among your Friends, Family and do some research and come up with points as judgement as to why you are being enforced to buy a non-EV vehicle. Also, since the EV market is upgrading itself, it is looking out for more feedback such that it can make a comeback with even more bigger and stronger in terms of its overall features(including joyful driving experience, safety, security, etc)

Problems with EV!!!

You got my attention, everyone – well most of us might be interested to know the disadvantages or problems that one might face in case I purchase an EV vehicle in future.

Agreed and Understood your point of thinking. Because, it’s after all your hard earned money and don’t want to face any hurdle while settling down with it.

So, since this is my first post about EV, I do not want to highlight or focus much on negative aspects but let me list them here and leave it as a decision maker for the audience.

  1. The per charge kilometer (or miles) is less. Not recommended for longer journeys.
  2. There are incidents of sudden fire in few EV vehicles (not naming the companies or I do not have any intention to shame them). They are doing their best. They might come up with better versions.
  3. Charging time is considerably high based on your charger type and battery.

Here’s a stunning look of a new dashing look EV vehicle purchased by my friend. Cool looks already won my heart.

Are you feeling guilty after purchasing low end phones at higher prices?

Here’s a solution for everything that comes and disappears in the mobile sector.

Idiom 1: Scientific spotlight

Before we could proceed, Well! here I want to introduce a tech genius guy Gordon Moore.

300px-Gordon_E._Moore_2393
Gordon Moore

gordon-moore

Well for those who don’t know this guy, He is co-founder of Intel Corporation. This genius has authored his observations known as Moore’s law.

So, what exactly is moore’s law and why are we actually discussing about him right now?

moore's law
Graphical representation of moore’s law.

The  assessment of Gordon moore, according to his own  moore’s law states that “The number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since their invention and this trend will continue into the foreseeable future.”

Gordon-Moore-webslide

Conclusion 1: The more the days pass on, the cheaper the phone rates will become. (Cheaper integration of hardware results in inexpensive phones)

Idiom 2: An apple iPhone or a Xioami Redmi?

Considerably, the choice of phone, I mean smartphone also depends upon the economic conditions of a country.Apple-vs-Xiaomi

If you/your country is economically sound , then your inclination is towards both lavish or cost effective smartphones.

But, what if you are wedged in a low remuneration, you have no option but to opt for a reasonably priced smartphone.

As per my knowledge in the current market trend, price tag really matters for the consumers. Why is it so?

lei-jobs-1

What if I get all the features of a iPhone in Xioami flagships and that to at half the price of an iPhone? In such a state of affairs, people would typically go after Xiaomi kind of brands provided its reviews are good with no issues.

One more obsession with iPhone users is that in recent media, an article drew my attention. The article had described that few people in some parts of the world are ready to sell their kidney in order to buy an iPhone (and that too may be to their loved ones).  Fine, we don’t encourage such people and don’t consider them good consumers. My only advice is to earn hard and eat well. Leave the rest to……. (Wait for a second, we are here to live on this planet just for few years say 70 years max. Don’t squander your time, energy, money. And why am I telling this to you? In good health, I am sharing some wisdom with you. Sharing is caring! )

Summing up VIVO, OPPO and GIONEE siblings (competitors) from east don’t feel bad that I had not mentioned you anywhere.

There are already jokes on your brands. I want to share one such joke with you.

JOKE: “75% of earth is covered with water and 20% of earth is covered with vivo and oppo hoardings”.

oppo vs vivo.jpeg
Advertisement through aggressive hoardings

You are all at your peak levels and dominating for the most part of developing countries, making a good deal out of it.

Conclusion 2: I would opt for a cheaper smartphone which provides more or less the equivalent traits of high end smartphones.

Idiom 3: Let’s articulate about technology.

Technology is like a tributary of incessant flowing water. It may not impede at any particular place (as of now in the current market).

I may not hesitate in saying that , “What exists in the present day and is trending might be obsolete tomorrow. Is there any such proverb by ay distinguished persons? If not, then it would be my wit.

If you stress on our very own computer science stream, there are a series of programming languages which saw themselves among the tides of rise and fall and sometimes vanished too.

Paradigm shift from FORTRAN, ALGOL, COBOL, PASCAL, C to more object oriented languages like C++, Java has taken place.

5454
Comparison of existing version v/s to be launched versions of smartphones.

As a consequence, you must be updated to new features/technology.

Conclusion 3: Hardware gets revolutionized, software gets revised/updated from time to time. So, decide on for a budget smartphone always and don’t repent later.

I just riveted you all to the above said few idioms. Feel free to comment and share my post and one more thing, Suggest me on what topics of mobile computing related theme should I post in my blog.

{CHOOSING A GOOD “HANDSET” IS == SELECTING A GOOD “LIFE PARTNER”}

Well! This may sound a bit weird but it’s a fact that you may or may not know. Coming to the fact that, most of the handsets sold today in the open market via online retails shops or through offline market channels such as the brick and mortars.

People have become more cautious while selecting their smart phones. A good smart phone does not mean only a good camera in terms of Mega Pixels but also other features such as good battery backup life, enhanced audio and video features.

mobile-marketing

TYPES OF USERS

There are many types of users. A selfie-holic  person might be interested in good camera.

A typical gamer might be interested in more RAM(Random Access Memory) to avoid frame falls/ lags while playing a high-end game.

A music lover or a movie watcher might be interested in prolonged battery life for streaming music and videos for long hours.

The above mentioned users are traditional. But, since we have went a drastic change in mobile computing platform, it has a diverse range of users.

selfie-holic

I am just naming a few types of users. There are other types of users such as below mentioned.

 Few of them might be:

  1. Checking emails, organizing meetings and other official work.
  2. Promoting business through e-platforms
  3. Staying updated with market and connected with users.
  4. Being Social virtually. (Ex: Whatsapp, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter) etc

Even Mobile banking is spearheading to dominate customer financial services.

MANUFACTURERS

So, here comes the big responsibility for the handset manufacturers. The main goal of the manufacturer is to fit in all customer requirements in a single device. Sometimes they might be able to do so. But since they want to attract all customers, they are also interested in introducing budget smartphones.

Mobile manufacturing companies are increasingly getting competitive interms of their product launch, brand ambassadors for their product , providing quality of services etc. They are also facing stiff competition from local manufacturing companies.

micromax

The local manufacturing companies have a good deal when it comes to capital, labor but may lack in innovative ideas to take their product to the next level. They are late entrants into the market, but are holding a fair share of the customers in their pockets.  It would be always better for the people to opt for local mobile manufacturers since it will help to grow their economy and helps to provide jobs directly or indirectly.

ONLINE GIMMICKS

In a demographic region such as south Asia, the demand for mobile market is increasing form the past few years rapidly especially in country like India where millions of smartphones are purchased every hour(through online platforms).

NEW ENTRANTS

Customers are nowadays more confused since mobile companies keep on guessing on new models, price and features to their customers.

Once a new model is launched with a varying price and feature, few customers start thinking of their old mobile for exchange with new ones.

Once the new model Is launched , after few months/years the older models tend to become obsolete.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Back in the year of 2014 first quarter, I took a NOKIA LUMIA-525 Model phone. Android OS were dominating since from the beginning in market, but for a change I took a Windows OS phone. Windows OS was added to the NOKIA hardware smartphones after the merger of two corporate giants i.e, NOKIA and MICROSOFT.

nokia-microsoft

It was a good time, I got updated to windows 8.1 few apps from android were also made available to windows game store. But, my happiness was short lived ever since NOKIA MICROSOFT split decision made headlines.

nokia-microsoft-split

My mobile was not compatible to receive windows 10 OS update. I was addicted to a puzzle game Trivia Crack.  And to make the situation worse, an app known as trivia crack pulled its application from windows game store and ended support on NOKIA LUMIA 525 Device.

Although NOKIA X (Android variant) was hugely advertised but it proved not much successful.

Now and then I’m finding hard to digest my views on Windows OS because in the past I used to flaunt in front of my friends about the combination of windows OS & NOKIA LUMIA phone with pride.

I am even thinking of switching to Android versions lately.

nokia-logo-after-break-up

I don’t know much about other users of windows phone category but certainly , I would like to advise that if you are using windows phone (with <10 windows OS) , then you are surely lagging 3 years behind that of Android users.

One more fact to be highlighted here is that “MORE POWER TO OPEN SOURCE (Android)”.

TIME TO MOVE FORWARD

alcatel-lucent-nokia

CONCLUSION

I have made the honest use of all facts and orporates for their failures. Success and failure are a part and parcel of our life. The essence is to learn from our past mistakes/failures and proceed forward with right option/choice.figures to represent where everything stands in the market right now in the last quarter of 2016.

So, here comes a time to conclude my title: CHOOSING A GOOD HANDSET IS LIKE SELECTING A GOOD LIFE PARTNER. So, make a proper judgment while choosing a smart phone. (What do you think of my title. Please feel free to comment, share etc)

In my next blog I will be coming up with network carriers which also play an equal role in wireless communication.

In 2005, the Taiwanese company BenQ acquired the loss-making Siemens Mobile from Siemens, together with exclusive right to use the Siemens trademark on its mobile phones for 5 years. Before transferring the mobile phone subsidiary to BenQ, Siemens invested 250 million euros and wrote down assets amounting to 100 million euros.

Siemens also acquired a 2.5% stake in BenQ for 50 million euros. BenQ subsequently released mobile phones under the BenQSiemens brand, from its German unit.

Siemens sold Siemens Mobile to the Taiwan-based BenQ in 2005, which subsequently became BenQSiemens. The last Siemens mobile phones, the AL21, A31 and AF51 were released in November 2005.
